The Geek ecosystem in South Africa is vibrant and ready to play a critical role in helping with the digital transformation of our common society. With a community of over 9 000 students, Geekulcha celebrates some of the coolest young Geeks in the country. Honouring Top 15 Young Geeks in the country who are playing a part in the Digital Revolution.

Meet Rebecca Franks

Rebecca is the Android Engineering Lead at Dynamic Visual Technologies. She qualified cum laude from the University of Johannesburg in 2012 with a BSc (Hons) in Information Technology.

Since then she has worked at a few different companies developing their custom software solutions, such as DStv's On Demand Android App. She has also developed an Android app for Book Dash that contains free kids books.

Rebecca frequently travels to speak at conferences about development and she most recently spoke in Switzerland about developing for the Internet of Things.

Last year in March, she was awarded the status of a Google Developer Expert, being the first female in Africa to get this recognition. Since then, she has received other notable awards. She enjoys sharing her knowledge with others and has a passion for Google Technology.
